It’s very well known that treadmills are terrific machines to secure your daily dose of cardio and some are built for relatively low impact. Why does impact matter? Your legs are like shock absorbers for the rest of your body. The more strain you put on them, the higher the probability and risk injury over a given period of time. The hardest thing for us to do is make it a habit of exercising at least three times a week. This “climatizes” the body and gets it used to exercising as routine. When you quit your exercise for two or more weeks, it’s important for you to get back into the routine slowly. If you used to run 20 minutes a day, you may want to slow down and maybe even start back by initially walking and then progressing back to your 20 minute regimen. You’ll also need to make sure your shoes are in good condition. If your experience chin splints (pain between your ankle and knee cap), you should really look into a new pair of shoes, but whatever you do, don’t give up! Where people fail is when they believe the pain will never go away. Trust me. It will! If you want a recommendation on which treadmill to hop on…..I’ve always like the Life Fitness treadmills. They’re usually very comfortable, can sustain a set pace, and are equipped with solid shock absorbers to lessen the impact on your joints and knees. Whatever you do, just don’t give up!
